Meet the team | Martin Houston
We're pleased to be able to bring back our popular Meet the Team series. This time we talk to Martin Houston, who works in the dispatch department at our head office.
What is your role at G&M?
I mainly work in the dispatch department in the stores, other times I work in the radiator assembly area, also use the forklift to load and unload pallets off trucks that come into the factory.
How long have you been working for G&M ?
Nearly a year and a half, started off working through an agency for 7 months then got a full time contract.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Getting to do different jobs in the warehouse and getting to learn new skills.
What was your first paying job?
Working at the Amazon Warehouse in Dunfermline.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Either a pilot or a professional footballer.
Before working at G&M, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Working in the famous Tunnocks factory in Uddingston.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start a career at G&M?
Always be willing to be flexible.
If you could switch your job with anyone else within G&M, whose job would you want?
Can’t pick one so would have to be either an engineer or a welder to experience what they are like.
What is your proudest moment at G&M?
Getting my first aid certificate at work was a big achievement for me as it is very important to know.
Do you have an office nickname? What is it?
Get called Mazza, no idea where that nickname came from but one my mates called me it one day and it stuck ever since haha
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Going out to the football at the weekends and socialising with my mates.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you:
I was once asked to go on a show called Judge Rinder for a prank my mate played on me, that was an experience hahah
